The winter just arrived and you are super excited to jump on the fluffy snow right?
We love getting out and explore nature but we are not used to cold weather since we are from a tropical one.
Our major concern was to keep Baloo safe, warm and still playful outside in the white snow.
After a few searches and walks we came up with this basic needs. As you know Baloo has a massive coat that protects him from the low temperature. But if we stay out for a long period of time we would put a coat or a water proof jacket on him. So if your dog has short fur look for a warm coat or short stays outside. For those very playful the use of glasses can be handy to protect the eye and the reflect on the bright ice.
Other useful tip we liked it was the using of a cream paw. This is great activity for you and your dog (not so much hahaha) to bond more and build trust. Usually we use the cream after a walk or before bed time (sometimes is greasy and it can be slippery, so be careful). Advice: massage well to penetrate into the paw pad and watch over for possible licking in the paw.
Winter sometimes can be very challenging in the city because there is salt and little rocks to help us to walk when is icy. So the use of boots is very helpful to keep the paw unharmed from these products. For lazy days when you do not feel putting boots on your pet keep in mind to rinse or wipe of the dirty after the walk.
Last but not less important trim the hair between the pads so the snow does not get glued on the fur, this prevents ice frosting.
- jacket and glasses
- cream to help and prevent cracked paws
- boots
- trim the hair between the pads
- rinse or wipe the paws after walks because of the winter salt
Remember: take care and have fun furriends!!!
